Exciting News: I have reunited with my Chemist and Manufacturer. I am actively in the process of testing samples from my Chemists for Mable's Body Butter product. After finalizing the selection, Mable's Body Butter will be produced by my Chemists and Manufacturer. No longer will Mable's Body Butter be made in my kitchen, so if desiring to purchase a handmade product, purchase now! Stay tuned as we prepare for the next step.

How it All Began

In 2012 I was relocated by the corporation I worked for to South Carolina. Before SC, I lived in major cities with a relative population of various ethnic backgrounds, cultures, and inclusion. When first being relocated, I was shocked at how hard it was to find the

products for my hair that I was used to applying. At the same time, I realized that I was using various products from different companies to accomplish the desired hairstyle I needed. Not being able to find what was so quickly readily available to me was incredibly frustrating, so much so that I decided to make my own haircare products. Going from city living to country living, I had a lot of time on my hands after work. Thus I began researching and experimenting with different products and homemade formulas addressing the specific needs that I had for my hair. This was definitely a trial

and error period. There would be times that I would go to work in the field looking like I had a jheri curl and hair dripping with the product placed in my hair hours prior. Other times, the product I had made would dry in my hair, leaving

white flakes all over. I remember asking my customers not to mind my appearance as I was working on a haircare product to address my needs. As time went on and I mastered a product to use in my hair, strangers began to stop me whenever I was out. I would be stopped at work, stopped by strangers in the grocery stores I shopped in, contained in the parking lot while I was out. I was

even stopped while at the fast-food drive-in by the cashier. They all asked me what I used in my hair and if they could also use the product. Strangers openly gave me their contact information, including their mailing address, to send them the product that I had created. That is when I decided to take what I was doing to the next level by obtaining a Chemist and Manufacturer to ensure my product was safe.

100% Black and Afro-Latina Owned, including our Chemists and Manufacturer, Gjellyboo Natural Hair Car Line, successfully launched in 2014. Balancing my company while working for a large corporation at the time wasn't the easiest to do, but I did it! I participated in various events in different states and supplied samples for other events given in different states. I was able to get Gjellyboo Natural Hair Care Line on the shelves in Harlem, NY, Conway, SC, Loris, SC, Ypsilanti, MI, and my hometown of Romulus, MI. The goal was to expand nationally, leave the corporate grind behind, and entirely focus on my passion. I was working toward that goal, then life hit me hard!!!

In November 2016, my best friend, my Beloved Mother, was diagnosed with stage four breast cancer. My Beloved Mother was aware of everything I was doing and told me that she did not want to hinder my progress. However, nothing was more important to me than her. I went from working on opportunities to leave SC including the corporation I was working for at the time, to deciding to stay in SC, close my business, purchase a house (new construction. Only the best for her), and spend time taking care of my best friend until she transitioned to Heaven.

In February of 2017, before I moved my Beloved Mother down south, she called me to specifically talk about the body butter I had been making her. My Body Butter (composed of Shea Butter, Cocoa Butter, and Coconut Oil) is something that I have made for myself, friends, neighbors, and even colleagues for free for many years. Knowing what I put into my skin and supplying it with rich vitamins and nutrients has always been important. Mama told me that she really liked my product and that I should make it for people who undergo chemotherapy for cancer. When I asked her why, Mama expressed and explained the challenges people endure with their skin due to chemotherapy. Mama described the challenges people face when trying to find a natural moisturizer that will help their skin. I asked Mama if she was just telling me all of this information and doting over my body butter because she was my Mother. When she shouted my name in response, I chuckled and told her that I would do it. I would do as Mama told me to. I then asked Mama what her favorite color was. She told me she didn't know, so I asked her to think about it and let me know. Due to Mama not being able to decide on a favorite color, I decided to use multiple colors, and surprise her by texting her the name and logo of what I would name the body butter. Mable's Body Butter, the colorful logo read. She was surprised.

After taking a break from Gjellyboo Natural Hair Care Line, I launched Mable's Body Butter in 2021. Keeping my word to my Beloved Mother, I also began supplying my product to a Regional Cancer Center in South Carolina. Mable's Body Butter is in a few outlets in two States. In addition, Mable's Body Butter is sold online.

Again I am excited to announce that I have returned to my Chemist and Manufacturer. I am actively in the process of testing samples from my Chemists for Mable's Body Butter product. After finalizing the selection, Mable's Body Butter will be produced by my Chemist and Manufacturer. No longer will Mable's Body Butter be made in my kitchen, so if desiring to purchase a handmade product, purchase now. Stay tuned! More to come.
